Most steel Level IV plates weigh 9 to 11 lbs each. These are 5.5. That is almost half the weight for the same protection level. Over a long day, that difference is what decides whether you keep the armor on.
The strike face is silicon carbide. It is one step below diamond on the hardness scale. It breaks the round up. Behind it sits a UHMWPE backer that catches what is left. Two materials, two jobs.
That is the heaviest rifle round the NIJ standard covers. Tested to NIJ Standard Level IV. A plate that stops that also stops 5.56 green tip, 7.62, and .308, and every handgun round below them.

Level IV is the highest protection level in the NIJ standard. These plates stop armor-piercing rifle rounds. They are hard plates — they go into a plate carrier, not a shirt. Here is how each level compares.

YEARSUHMWPE does not absorb moisture like Kevlar. Your panels will not degrade in humidity, sweat, or rain. That is why the warranty is ten years and not five.
High quality and super light!
Already put in my vest. Very light weight.
I already had one that I bought 6wks ago and like it so well I bought another.
There is no size to choose. Both plates are 10 by 12 inches, shooter cut. That is the standard size for a rifle plate carrier, so they fit most carriers on the market. The plates do not come with a carrier. If you do not already have one, you will need to buy a carrier separately.
Yes. Body armor is legal in all 50 states for civilians. Some states restrict ownership for people with felony convictions. Check your local laws.
Level IIIA stops handgun rounds (up to .44 Magnum) and uses soft panels. Level III+ stops rifle rounds and uses hard plates in a carrier. Level IV stops armor-piercing rifle rounds and also uses hard plates.
Wipe the plates with a damp cloth when needed. Do not submerge them. Store them flat in a cool, dry place. Do not stack heavy objects on top of them.
Two Level IV plates. That is the set. Each plate is 10 by 12 inches, shooter cut, one inch thick, and weighs 5.5 lbs. Silicon carbide strike face over a UHMWPE backer. There is no plate carrier included. These are plates only.

The ballistic panels are covered for 10 years — the longest in the industry. The carrier or shirt is covered for 2 years. If anything fails under normal use, we replace it.
